In addition to historic churches, forts, cobblestoned streets and buildings in the old town, Zona Velha, the most beautiful parks in the city are worth a longer visit. Two modern lifts lead to the famous Monte Palace Tropical Garden, which also contains an African and Mineral Museum. A bird sanctuary is directly connected to it. The return journey back into Funchal can be made in a special wicker toboggan ride. It lasts about 15 minutes. An orchid garden with more than 50,000 species, is located below Monte. Many hotel guests and locals alike enjoy walking along the elegant Lido promenade and the area around the port are particularly good because there are restaurants, shops and public swimming pools.
